Two young Americans fall in love as the allies bury Hitler’s vision. Peter fights to maintain peace pursuing a career in intelligence. Mary strives to maintain their happy marriage. Sixty years on and their dream lies beneath the rubble of litigation, deceit and mistrust. The war without becomes the war within. Beautifully crafted, this is truly a play for today.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Think again. The bigger the dream the deeper the nightmare.
This play was originally written as ‘The Hole’ in 1998 and premiered at The Purple Rose Theatre, Detroit USA, it sold out throughout the run, received five Theatre Excellence Awards and the American Drama Critics award for ‘Best Play of the Year’.
Wendy re-wrote the play (it had extra resonance since the events of September 11 2001) for Freerange to premiere on our Spring tour, and we worked together (albeit by phone calls) towards its successful production.
Brilliant acting ... the play was worthy of Miller at his best
