'Tin Can Lurky' is a piece of theatre produced to celebrate the last 100 years of our regional heritage. This piece was just part of (W)rites of Passage, a much greater project which was almost three years in the making.

The integral part of (W)rites of Passage was the interviewing by Wren and a wonderful team of volunteers of many of the oldest residents in the region. Personal histories and cherished memories were collected and painstakingly transcribed for the various facets of the project. Outcomes included 'Wheels of Change', a book and CD rom containing much of the work, an exhibition available to tour regional libraries throughout South Cumbria and Lancashire, workshops for schools, and of course 'Tin Can Lurky' the play.

Tin Can Lurky directed by Wren and was produced from three sources: the transcripts, the winning entries in our 'Playframe' competition, and the work devised by the expertise of our acting team.

The title 'Tin Can Lurky' was taken from a game otherwise known as 'kick can'; or 'kick the can', a hide-and-seek game that involves kicking a can or a ball.

Copies of the book 'Wheels of Change' together with CD rom may still be available from the Freerange office. They are FREE (so long as you can either pay the postage or collect them), so feel free to call us and check if there is one left! Many of the audio interviews have been lodged with the North West Sound Archive at Clitheroe Castle.
